Well, hackers are seeing the rave as the right moment to get at you and are intelligently exploring the fierce Game of Thrones enthusiasm.
Reports reaching us reveal that there has been a “targeted email campaign” that deploys the details of the episodes of Game of Thrones that have been leaked. This email campaign has been successfully spreading malware to unknowing users.
The email could look like this: Wanna see the Game of Thrones in advance? The email would go on to details some episodes to come, accompanied with a Microsoft Word attachment. Watch out, that Microsoft Word attachment has malware hidden inside! So when the unsuspecting user tries downloading it the Word attachment, it triggers the installation of a “9002” remote access Trojan (RAT).
By the end of July, hackers have made away with over 1.4 terabytes of unreleased information from HBO. Some of the stolen data were scripts, contact information to some stars of the show and even unaired episodes. The hackers perpetuating this are trying to play on your curiosity and enthusiasm for the game of thrones. BE CAREFUL!
